Prospect Park Fall Duathlon & Gotham Cup Challenge

This is a very well run event and a surprisingly challenging course. The 3.35 mile bike loop is mostly downhill or flat, but the one uphill portion is quite steep and long, maybe a ¾ of a mile. You need to make the loop 3 times. The good and the bad about the bike course; you enter T2 after spending about 2.5 miles going either downhill or on flat course. The bad news when you leave T1 after your first 5K the first thing you hit is the hill.

The run course is also quite challenging, the course has two hills. The first hill you do not feel until your second 5K because it’s so close to the beginning of the run course. Bu the second hill is a long up and back down right near mile marker two. The first time up should feel OK, but you have to be very determined during the second 5K not to walk part of it. So plan for this and don’t give in, don’t walk.

Transition is just fine in and out. The food after has always been OK and the facilities have always been adequate. This November 2011 will be my third time on this course.

Highly recommend! I got lucky I put this race onto my schedule this year. The weather was perfect, people where nice, race itself was a great experience with flat but interesting bike course and run through the streets of beautiful Hightstown. Some pros showed up adding the challange to the course. Also the personel was amazingly kind and helpful. Not to mention the award ceremony which was by far the best one I had in this sport  - got a nice X-terra wetsuit! You will not regret putting it to your schedule.

Good course.  Dangerous if you are a slower athlete.  Got heat exhaustion on mile 9 of the run, and the fire truck I planned to stop and ask for help at was gone when I got there (2 loops for run).  Walked a 1/2 mile and asked volunteer for help.  He pointed and said that way to finish.  Hobbled to finish (7 hours, 25 min., so well within the 8 hour time) nauseous, confused and ill, and told finish line people I was not well, and they just stared at me and said, ok...I could spray you with my hose.  Emailed R.D. afterward and received NO response.

Great if you are fast athlete.  Maybe its just growing pains on the part of the event, but you won't find me back out on that course.

This is a terrific course - the organization is great.  This year, was turned into a duathlon, and I think the Race Director got a lot of flack for doing that, but, I really think it was the best (safest) decision he could have made.  You could not see through the water - it looked like a giant mud puddle. Yuck.

I love this race.

I was so glad I had the oppurtunity to race at Hightstown. It was a shame the swim had to be canceled, but we can't control Mother Nature, but adding the 2 mile run ,in place of the run, worked out just fine. The setting  for this race is awesome,in downtown Highstown. The run courses were nicely laid out, flat and fast, with many  volunteers, at key  turns. The bike course was one of the best I have ever seen in a Mid Atlantic race, please keep that  cousre. We were  hammering out there!! The race is well  organized, and the RD is a great guy,who looks out for the athletes needs. I will be back next year. Put this on yor race calender for 2012.

Race was turned into a duathlon because of the water conditions in the lake. I give credit to the RD for having the duathlon backup plan. This review is based on the duathlon set up. The first run was two miles and flat, although there were some narrow spots which would have been tricky if there were more people. The transition area was well spaced out with plenty of room. The 15 mile bike course was mostly flat with a couple of hills when the course went over the NJ Turnpike. Road condiitions were good with one exception in the last two miles. Second run course was 5K on a variety of surfaces. There were a lot of turns on the run course but it was well marked and volunteers were at virtually everyone to make sure racers went the right direction. Fun to finish on Main Street. Post-race food featured juice, coffee, and fritatta from the tavern next door to the race site. Awards were done within a reasonable amount of time and there was a nice amount of raffle prizes handed out. Lots of volunteers out to help.

This race used to be run my the city of Philly but was taken over by the Competitor Company under Rock n' Roll Marathon and they have done it justice.  I would usually sleep over the night before but with same day packet pick-up (extra $30.00) and very easy logistics there is no need if you are in driving distance to spend $150-250 on hotel room.  I found parking within minutes and within .5 mile from start.  Information Tent was very easy to find along with the drop bag location.  Corrals were set up perfectly with easy entrance into them.  The course itself is heavenly fast vitually flat with small declines and not many inclines.  The hardest portion is last 1-2 miles where sun does come out and there is an incline last 400 or so meters which you do feel.  Fuild stations were spread out ideally with ample water, cytomax and even Rocktane Gu.  Spectators are not everywhere on the course but where you need them.  The end is exciting with a nice finish.   This truly is  PR course with no excuses!

The bay swim was with the current and was lightning fast although lots of contact throughout. The bike course was a challenge just because of the strong head winds but otherwise is flat and fast. The run is 2 flat loops with a terrific finish past an enthusiastic crowd. Manzi and the volunteers did a fantastic job and looking forward to doing again next year

This is my second year doing the Seafood 5k. The race has really great family atmosphere along with supporting Autism Awareness. Beautiful flat course, starting and finishing in the local neighborhood including a bit of the Point Pleasant board walk. Just a fun event! Also has some of the best prizes, raffle give aways, and goodie bags   ~ Soldiers Race Team

Finally I am able to log on to this site...  I did shoreman last week and it was a very nicely run race with plenty of water and supplies and great Post race food. \

Swim.. best swim all season.  Calm and buoys nicely marked. Since the swim was in the lake, there was no current and the water was very clean and nice temp for long distance.  Waves were small and setting was intimate!

The bike was flat for the most part.  There were many slight rolling hills which kept your legs moving all the time with no real rest in site.  The wind was there and it felt like you were working hard.  There were 2 main water stops where we were given Water bottles  and that helped a bunch.  If you carry two bottles with you, you should be fine if you get the other two at the stops along the way.

Run:  The run was shaded on one side of the street which provided relief from the sun.  It was a very tough run mainly because there was really no relief on the bike and the sun was hot.  After getting my legs back I managed to make it through the run.  There were many water stops with gatorade and water and the neighbors were kind enough to spray the athletes with the hose if you needed that.

Post race food was awesome with sandwiches, Pizza Pretzels and fruit.  It was enough variety to satisfy any starving athlete.

Tom Manzi is a Great Race Director and I would race any event he sponsors!

This year 2011 was the second time doing this particular race and I will do it again next year.

First of all I urge everyone to do early packet pickup as the logistics In Mercer county are crazy and the park is nestled in a spot with high traffic volume.  I think it was 10 dollars, but well worth the money.

Swim:  2 years in a row it has been a non-wetsuit swim.  The water is clean and beautiful.

Bike: Plenty of supplies along the ride with slight rolling hills, just enough to tire your legs out. 2 loops.

Run:  The run has been hot with no relief in site, but flat and there is plenty of water and ice cold towels and sponges for the athletes.  There were sprinklers as you run, so If you don't want to run in squishy fee, I suggest to avoid the sprinklers and just get the sponges and towels.

Nice Post race food!

Very weil organized event on a very fast and flat track. Wind created a challenge on the bike, which was a three loop course - that is obviously beyond one's control. The swim was fast and fortunately with the current. The run, a two loop course was fast as well, especially with the wind at your back heading towards the finish line. Race director, Tom Manzi, did an excellent job at race start alerting all participants on the course and race.

First off the rain was pretty much nonstop.  Even though the rain continued the event was good.  The swim was in lake that was perfectly flat and calm.  Great for a triathlete who is new to the sport.  The bike distance was mismarked.  It was billed as 40k (24 miles) but actually was closer to 30 miles.  Bike was 3 loops in 3.5 mile straight runs, which gave you an opportunit to pick up some nice speed.  Run would have been great thru the woods had it not poured and made the ground very muddy.  Overall I would do the race again.  The setting at Presidential Lakes is very nice and finishing the run overlooking the Lake is a nice touch.

One of the best crowds at a triathlon I have ever experienced. For the last two years NYC has not let me down! I was playing with the crowd and they responded with a roar that was amazing. I do triathlon for many reasons but the one that always stands out is the people and that is why this event is special to me. We must not forget two athletes died at this event and I must put that in perspective of what is supposed to be fun. I am truly lucky to have had such great support and training over the last few years. Such a memorable experience.

Enjoyed the track very much.  Swim was parallel to the shore line with an in water start.  The bike course was nice in the flats but there were many turns in the begining of each loop, that required decrease speed.  The run was enjoyable as you ran through the Asbury Convetion Center which was cool.  The finish line had a lot of energy as the beach community really came out and supported the event.  I would recommend this race for anyone that enjoys a flat quick course, typical of the ocean area.

SheROX - Philadelhia

This was my third SheRox Philly in the past four years (one of the three races was turned into a duathlon because of conditions - so this was actually my second SheRox Tri in Philly). I think this race is a great "starter" race for people entering the sport of triathlon (and that is the only reason I may not be back). The fact that it is an "all women's tri" makes it especially supportive and adds the "girl power"element to the race. The swim, in the Skukyill River, has been shortened to .37 mi (from the original .5m when I first did the race in 2008) water temp was 79 degrees on race morning so wetsuits were only allowed if you did not want your results to officially count) and if you wore one, you swam in the last wave - some women chose to swim in wetsuits. The rain the night before the race left roads wet and much debris on the shoulder, so this race had a LOT of flat tires, but again, other racers stopped to help their fellow women - which is always nice to see. Their are some hills on the two loop course but nothing terrible. The run is flat and except for the humid conditions was fast. The overall organization was great. Medals are nice too (in the past the award was a bracelet instead, which I kinda liked, 'cause I have other medals and what do you really do with them after awhile?) So, I would highly recommend this race for women entering the sport. She swims, she bikes she runs, SheROX!

This was my first year doing this event and I will definitely be back next year. The ocean conditions could not have been better, warm and calm (swam without my wetsuit), the bike course is fast and flat (but did involve three loops -which of course means turns...) and the run was also fast and flat. I completed my finish with a water-slide splash (for which I received and "8" (points for style) (though I felt it was "9-worthy'! I really cannot complain). Bike security at transition was tight (which was much appreciated by all athletes) Post race food was good and entry also entitled you to the "after race party" at Bar A! T-shirts are also nice, and prizes for age group winners were generous! Plus some great raffle prizes too! But BEST OF ALL Proceeds for this event benefit kids and families with Autism, so as I already mentioned, I will do it again next year!

It was hard to believe this was the Inaugeral STOMP THE MONSTER 5K race and festival! The organization and attention to details was incredible! even though there were a few clouds/drizzle, nothing could put a damper on the spirit and fun of this race (actually races) there were kids races, a health walk and the 5K run in addition to food and fun for kids and adults alike. Lots of raffles prizes too! and "SWAG" nice shirts (tech tees for early registration) and friendly people all there to help a wonderful cause and support a charity that helps cancer patients and their families! I will look forward to the second running of this race, it is sure to be even bigger and better than the first one! KEEP ON STOMPIN'!!

This has been my third year doing this race and it has become one of my favorites. The beach crowd and spectators are amazing and DQ puts on some of the best organized events and provide great value. There has never been a time where I didnt feel that I got my moneies worth. This year they added a water slide at the end of the run - just made for more fun and a light hearted edge. The three loops bike course and 180 next to the bike out makes for tough bike course and tight lanes for passing bike traffic but everything else makes up for that. Well run and good fun!
